One unpleasant side-effect of shaving and waxing is having to deal with ingrown hairs. They are so annoying, to say the least, and can even become extremely painful.

There can be several reasons why people get ingrown hairs, especially after a wax. A lot has to do with what type of wax is being used. But the simple way to minimize ingrown hairs after a shave or wax treatment is to cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate.

First, use a gentle cleanser on treated areas at least for two days after the treatment. Then you can switch to a regular cleanser.

Second, moisturize treated areas with a moisturizer that is alcohol and fragrance-free. Aloe Vera Gel, Arnica Serum, or any natural moisturizer with calming, antibacterial properties would be the best option.

And finally, exfoliate the shaved or waxed area one week after your treatment with a very gentle exfoliant.

Think of this way: if it safe to use on your face, then you can use on your bikini area. Avoid using scrubs that have big granules because it will irritate your skin. You can continue to exfoliate few times a week between appointments.

That’s it! Simple, but effective.
